PHILIPPI — After the 6 p.m. June 1 opening ceremonies at the Barbour County Courthouse Square Gazebo, the 28th annual Blue & Gray Reunion will kick off with one of this year’s new events.

The Reunion’s Horse and Buggy Parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. on the Route 119 side of the Philippi Covered Bridge, proceed through the 1852 Bridge and prance south on Philippi’s Main Street. Sponsoring this new event is the Barbour County 4-H Equestrian Team. For information about the Horse and Buggy Parade, contact Equestrian Team representatives Eddy Poling at polingeddy@gmail.com or call Ami Lantz Maddox at 304-588-1714.

The Reunion’s Grand Parade will take its traditional time space June 2. This parade will begin at the Main Street Subway and proceed north toward the Covered Bridge. This annual parade brings hundreds of people to downtown Philippi and fills the sidewalks with children eager to catch the wrapped candy frequently thrown by parade participants.

The Philippi Volunteer Fire Department is the official sponsor of this annual parade with Dave Casto being the fire department’s representative to the Reunion Committee.

This year’s parade, once again, will feature fire trucks from the surrounding areas, floats, marching bands, twirling groups and other organizations For more information about the parade, call Casto at 304-457-1666 or email drc426@gmail.com.

Members of the Barbour County 4-H Equestrian Team will participate in the Blue & Gray Reunion.
