Dr. Chuck to perfom at banquet

Popular local entertainer, Music by Dr. Chuck, will return to the annual Banquet Meeting of the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce at Alderson Broaddus University May 12

PHILIPPI — Popular local entertainer, Music by Dr. Chuck, will return to the annual Banquet Meeting of the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce at Alderson Broaddus University May 12 where the featured speaker will be West Virginia’s Secretary of Commerce W. Wood “Woodie” Thrasher.

A Punch Bowl Reception starting at 6 p.m. will give attendees an opportunity to meet Thrasher. Live music also starts at 6 p.m. Dinner begins at 6:30 p.m. The public is invited. Registration information is available at the chamber office at 304-457-1958.

A retired professor of music from Alderson-Broaddus College, Dr. Charles Ervin is a graduate of Uhrichsville, Ohio public schools, Mount Union College and West Virginia University where he earned a Ph. D. on a National Merit Scholarship. He is a graduate of the U. S. Navy School of Music and was once the principal woodwind of the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet where he was assigned to the Com Six Fleet Band stationed in the Mediterranean.

Ervin’s saxophone and vocals are backed by a Yamaha Tyros Digital Keyboard and 400 watts of Roland KC 550 speakers. He plays music from the 1940s to the 1990s and specializes in Latin, country, swing, big band, smooth jazz and rock and roll.
