Fred Brooks Garden Club members, from left, Libby Randall, Sandra McCutcheon, Cindy Phillips and Helen Heater complete sprucing up the courthouse flower beds May 5. Prior to this planting, all the old plants had been pulled from the beds by club members, assisted by county maintenance staff and new dirt purchased by the club added to build them up. The new, salmon-colored geraniums, also purchased by the club, were then planted. The county maintenance staff maintains the beds after planting. Other flower beds that the club will be working on include the health department, Fred Brooks Park and Blue Star Memorial Highway markers. New for this year, at the request of the Upshur County Historical Society, the Historical Society Museum flower beds will be redesigned and planted by club members in the near future.
