Literacy Volunteers Host Banquet

Submitted photos The Literacy Volunteers of Upshur County held its annual end-of-year banquet for students and tutors on May 5. More than 40 students, tutors and community members attended the banquet, celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Dinner was a make-your-own taco buffet, and activities included a pinata, a Mayan folk tale and a little history about Cinco de Mayo. Attendees learned to do the Mexican Hat Dance. The price of admission was a can of green beans, collecting more than 60 cans for the upcoming Parrish House Green Bean Day event this summer.
