Student Council member Morgan Key welcomes everybody to the annual Eighth Grade Promotion ceremony.

HAMBLETON — And then they were freshmen. Tucker Valley held its annual Eighth Grade Promotion on Tuesday night. The semi-formal event took place in the school’s gymnasium in front of hundreds of proud family members and friends. This year, 53 students were recognized as completing their education at Tucker Valley.

The evening began with Student Council member, Morgan Key welcoming the audience. Riley Davis followed with an “In Appreciation” speech. The class then took a few minutes to pass out carnations and hand-written notes to the people who meant the most in their lives and have supported them in every step of their journey thus far.

Student Council member Wyatt Betler presented his fellow classmates as Tucker Valley’s Class of 2017. Principal Teresa Brusak presented the promotion certificates to each student as Darren Burnside, an eighth grade teacher, announced the names. Cheers and whistles could be heard from the crowd as each student paused for a photo and found their way back to their seats.

Amy Moore presented a PowerPoint with photos ranging from the students as toddlers to promotion practice that morning. Brusak gave the event’s closing remarks and wished the students good luck next year as they begin their career at Tucker County High School. Light refreshments were served in the cafeteria following the close of the event.
