We all can work together to make Elkins smile

Elkins is fortunate to be populated with individuals whose generosity of spirit and resources is evident in their volunteerism. Regardless of interest or motivation, the benefits of this enthusiasm can be felt all over Elkins in the areas of tourism, economic development, community health and safety, education and beautification.

Individually our numerous nonprofit organizations perform tremendous work and make great strides for Elkins. Recently, members of a few of these long-standing organizations magnified the lines of communication. The benefits of this were immediately visible in the solicitation of a new high-profile motorcycle event coming to Elkins this summer and certainly for many years after.

Another recent example of these partnerships is the creation of a guide to city services and contacts for current or potential business owners. By pooling resources and ideas, organizations, including the city of Elkins, Elkins Main Street and Davis Health in this particular instance, developed a brochure-style publication to assist and attract business owners in Elkins. The city services guide will be available soon in paper and electronic form.

The intent behind the new-found cooperation and communication between these organizations is not to amalgamate our city or to centralize control, but instead to reduce duplication of efforts so that the resources we do have can be used strategically and effectively in promoting Elkins’ uniqueness.

We, as volunteers, professionals, property owners, residents and otherwise interested parties, are asking the city of Elkins to get excited about your town, your citizens and what collectively they are capable of. If you have an idea or the desire to help in any way, please reach out to one of the many organizations around Elkins and Randolph County. We all can work together to make Elkins smile!
