ELKINS — Members of the Emma Scott Garden Club gathered at Graceland Inn for their annual Rose Luncheon and installation of new officers for the 2017-2018 gardening year.

West Virginia Garden Club president, Judy Guye-Swanson presided over the ceremony, thanking outgoing officers and offering each present a token of appreciation for a “job well done.”

Outgoing officers were president, B.J. McKenzie, vice president, Patricia Mayes, recording secretary, Heidi Jeffries, corresponding secretary, Rachel Pingley and treasurer, Monica Varchetto.

Amid a display of roses and accessories of pinks, arranged by members Bobbi Trimboli and Jane Hoxmeier, outgoing president McKenzie thanked members of the club for all their hard work and outlined the accomplishments of the past year.

Marian Harless, a West Virginia naturalist and retired college professor in comparative psychology, biology and zoology, spoke to the group about the importance of “Mason Bees and their Native Pollinating Friends.”

The National Garden Club as well as state garden clubs focused on the importance of pollinators in the environment during the past year, under Guye’s guidance.

July 1 marked the beginning of the new Garden Club year, with Guye stepping down on the state level, handing the presidency to Carolyn S. McCafferty for the next two years. Guye will serve on the Past Presidents Advisory Council as Chairman through 2017-18.
