‘Bookworms’ team ready to Run For It

PHILIPPI — Every year the Philippi Public Library enters a team of runners and walkers in the Tucker Community Foundation’s Run For It in Davis during the Leaf Peepers Festival. The library is looking for runners, walkers, rollers, strollers, sponsors, and others for its team in this year’s race. The annual race is sponsored by the Tucker Community Foundation, a source for local charitable giving and social investment.

The library has been raising funds all year to support the Philippi Public Library “Bookworms” team.

“Last year, we raised $10,039.75 from fundraisers, donors, race participants and race-day awards for the Run For It. We hope to exceed that amount this year,” a library spokesperson said.

The Run For It is a 2K walk and a 5K race around the scenic mountain town of Davis during the Leaf Peepers Festival. Participants walk or run to vie for large grant awards that benefit non-profits, civic groups, educational programs and other charities within the Foundation’s service, including Barbour County. The race will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday in Davis during the Leaf Peeper’s Festival.

Anyone still wishing to join the Philippi Public Library’s team, should register on-site at the Davis Fire Hall today between 5-7 p.m., or on Saturday before 9:30 a.m. Race-day registration closes promptly at 9:30 a.m. and no exceptions are made.

For more information, call the Philippi Public Library at 304-457-3495 or stop by the library. For more information about the Run For It, call the Tucker Community Foundation at 304-478-2930 or visit www.tuckerfoundation.net.
