EHS names 2017 homecoming representatives
ELKINS — The Elkins High School student body has voted on the 2017 homecoming representatives. Each underclassmen grade level has one female representative selected by their own class. The senior representatives are composed of 10 princesses who will vie for the queen’s homecoming crown.
Representing the freshmen class is Addison Willow Berdine, daughter of Ashton and Debby Berdine. Addison’s activities include being an EHS honors student, 4-H and running cross country for Elkins High School. Addison plans on attending Marshall University and majoring in athletic training. She is escorted by her father, Ashton Berdine.
Representing the sophomore class is Sofia Triplett, daughter of Silvia & Jeff Triplett. Sofia’s activities include being a member of EHS Student Council and the Sophomore Class Council, Spanish Honor Society, EHS Track and Soccer teams. She has participated in: The West Virginia Governor’s School for Math & Science, The Naval Academy STEM Program, The Rotary Youth Leadership Association Conference and National Youth Leadership Conference for STEM. She’s a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church, and plans to attend Princeton University to become a surgeon. She is escorted by her father, Jeff Triplett.
Representing the junior class is Ellen Richelle Reed, daughter of Richard and Lisa Reed. Ellie is a member of the club Elkins Now!, an honor roll student, and often participates in community service. She is a three-year varsity member of the EHS cheerleading team, and a two-year member of the EHS Tennis team. She attends Elkins Alliance Church and is a member of Elkins Alliance Youth Group. Her future plans are to major in psychology and to become a clinical psychologist. She is escorted by her father, Richard Reed.
Senior Princess Madison Rose Bowers is the daughter of Todd and Nicki Bowers. Madison’s activities include being a member of EHS National Honor Society, Thespian Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society, and Class Council Representative. She is a member of the honor roll, and has been an apprentice at Old Brick Playhouse for seven years. She was the EHS mascot in 2015-2016, and works for Warner Brother’s aboard the Polar Express. She is the assistant director of shows and administrative assistant at the Gandy Dancer Theatre. Her future plans are to attend WVU. She is escorted by her father, Todd Bowers and her brother, Nick Bowers.
Senior Princess Mackenzie Paige Guy is the daughter of the late Jonah Guy and Tracey Guy. Mackenzie’s activities include academic honor roll, D & E Upward Bound, Student of the Semester at RCTC for Business, and a member of Center Stage Dance Studio. She is a three-year EHS Softball team member, two-year EHS Basketball team member, and 1 year EHS Swimming team member. Her future plans are to attend WVU and study accounting and business management. She is being escorted by her mother, Tracey Guy and family friend, Jeff Adams.
Senior Madison Paige Dillon is the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Dillon. Madison’s activities include academic honor roll, being an honors student, and a being a three-year member of the varsity cheerleading team. Her future plans are to attend WVU and major in dermatology. She is being escorted by her Father, Richard Dillon.
Senior Princess Hali Brooke Newlon is the daughter of Chad and Janie Newlon. Hali’s activities include Skills USA, National Technical Honors Society, Spanish Honors Society, Honor Roll, Law & Public Safety Completer, and Rhododendron Girls State. She is a four-year letterman for EHS softball, and has played travel softball for Elkins Explosion, Mountain State Storm and Diamond Dusters. She is a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins. Her future plans are to attend Penn State Fayette and major in administration of justice, as well as play colligate softball. She is being escorted by her father, Chad Newlon.
Senior Princess Sydney Shea Oldaker is the daughter of Davie and Dee Oldaker. Sydney has participated in Rhododendron Girls State, EHS Student Council, Skills USA, Pep Club, and has been an EHS Higher Education Readiness Officer. She is a four-year varsity swimmer at Elkins High, and a Davis Memorial Center volunteer. She is a member her church choir and enjoys playing music in her free time. Her future plans are to attend West Virginia University and major in nursing, in order to become a nurse practitioner. She is being escorted by her parents, Davie and Dee Oldaker.
Senior Princess Morgan Rizzio is the daughter of Kristie Summerfield and Bryan Rizzio. Morgan has participated in class council, student council, and Rhododendron Girls State. She is a three-year letterman of EHS Cheerleading team. Her future plans are to attend Fairmont State University and major in art education. She is being escorted by her father, Bryan Rizzio.
Senior Princess Laria Rush is the daughter of Jamie Rush and Nathan Keeling. Laria has participated in the Elkins High School band, contemporary band, and EHS Student Council. She is a four-year EHS volleyball letterman, and is a 2017 senior volleyball captain. Her future plans are to attend West Virginia University. She is being escorted by her parents, Jamie Rush and Nathan Keeling.
Princess Ally Katherine Simon is the daughter of Melody and Kenny Himes. Ally has participated in EHS Student Council, Class Council, National Honor Society, EHS Honor Roll, and she is an active member of the West Virginia Highland Dancers. Her future plans are to attend West Virginia University and major in civil engineering. She is being escorted by her father, Kenny Himes.
Senior Princess Caitlin Weese is the daughter of Jay and Becky Weese. Caitlin has participated in EHS Student Council, Rhododendron Girls State, WV ODP Soccer Player and 4-H Teen Leader. She is a four-year letterman for the Lady Tiger Soccer team, and a two-year member of the EHS Track team. Her future plans are to attend college and become a pediatrician, as well as play collegiate soccer. She is being escorted by her father, Jay Weese.
Senior Princess Kaci Zopp is the daughter of Alex & Bart Zopp. Kaci has participated in the Spanish Honor Society, National Honor Society, Student and Class Council, Honor Roll and Rhododendron Girls State. She is a four-year varsity member of the EHS track team, Big 10 long cump champion, and a member of Center Stage Dancer Studio. She is a dancer at the Gandy Dancer Theatre. Her future plans are to attend college, and study optometry or pediatrics. She is being escorted by her mother, Alex Zopp.
This evening will mark the end of the reign of the 2016 Homecoming Queen, Miss Ashlee Bennett. Ashlee is currently attending West Virginia University and majoring in Nursing.
The flower girl is Emma Grace Miller, daughter of DJ and Krista Miller and niece of Amrit and Kelly Rayfield. Emma’s grandparents are Stanley and Brenda Teets, and Daniel and Gloria Miller. Emma attends Kindergarten at Midland Elementary and participates in Dance by Farrah.
The crown bearer is Gage William Noble Cook, son of William and Jessica Cook. Gage is the grandson of Neal and Kim Paugh, Joe and Linda Cook, and Bob and Kelly Corrick. Gage attends third grade at Midland Elementary School and is a member of Seneca Soccer, Rays Swim Team, and Mighty Mites Basketball.
The homecoming queen and her two maids of honor will be announced at half time of the homecoming football game against East Fairmont High School at Wimer Stadium Friday at 7 p.m.
