ROANOKE — The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats hosted a September meeting Monday at the Stonewall Jackson Stillwaters Restaurant at the Stonewall Jackson Resort with 27 in attendance.

Queen Mothers Debbie Cook and Carole Helmick presided over the meeting.

A tribute in memory of the 9/11 victims and the families and those suffering from hurricanes Harvey and Irma was led by Cook.

All former queens hosted the meeting and participated in a ceremony reinstating Cook and Helmick as Queen Mothers for the upcoming year.

September birthdays were announced and members serenaded birthday Majesties Judy Jack and B.J. McKenzie with their Kazoos.

Prior to lunch McKenzie offered the blessing. After lunch, door prizes were awarded by the former Queens to the lucky ticket holders.

The October meeting will be at Graceland at Davis & Elkins College at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 9. Duchess for the meeting will be Charlotte Thomas, Gerri Rosencrance and B.J. McKenzie. If you would like to join this fun loving “nifty after 50” group or for reservations for the September meeting, call Queen Mothers Carole Helmick at 304-614-0359 or Debbie Cook at 304-940-0067.
