Blue & Gray Reunion seeking volunteers for 2018
PHILIPPI — More volunteers are always needed and welcome in order to provide a successful Blue & Gray Reunion event each year in Philippi.
New volunteers are invited to join with the veteran committee members when they meet at 7 p.m. today in Council Chambers of the Philippi City Hall.
This meeting kicks off the official planning process of the annual reunion weekend, scheduled for May 31 through June 3, 2018. Area volunteers work from the time the previous year’s reunion is packed away until the current reunion finishes up its last day of activities. They meet for a feedback/reflective meeting immediately after the reunion weekend and then in regular meetings on the third Wednesday of each month until the actual event.
Committees always need help with advance planning; with setup and operation of the reunion; and with the packing and tearing down the reunion. Anyone interested in helping with any aspect of the reunion is encouraged to attend tonight’s meeting or to call Chairperson Ed Larry at 304-457-3773.
Committees of the reunion are Mini Lecture Series, Horse and Buggy Parade, Grand Parade, Kayak/SUP Board Races, Walking History Day, Pie Contest, Information Tent, Food Vendors, Craft Park, Publicity (includes marketing, print media, social media), Talent Show, Entertainment/Music, Civil War Ball, Quilt Show and the Blue & Gray Community Choir.
