Heart and Hand House Inc. offering NIP tax credits

PHILIPPI — Heart and Hand House Inc. is pleased to be able to offer Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) tax credits for eligible donations made to its Home Repair and Construction Program between now and March 15.

Businesses and individuals who contribute to NIP-approved organizations may receive up to 50 percent of the contributed amount in the form of state tax credits that can be used to reduce liability for the West Virginia Corporate Net Income Tax or Personal Income Tax. The minimum eligible donation is $500 and can be in the form of cash, personal property, real estate, stock, or certain professional services. (Only services performed by a doctor, lawyer, state licensed architect, accountant, or state licensed medical professional are eligible, and these services cannot account for more than 25 percent of the total individual contribution.) Credits are limited and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

In 1996 the West Virginia Legislature established the Neighborhood Investment Program (NIP) to encourage charitable giving to local nonprofit organizations to increase the capacity of such organizations to serve low-income persons in highly distressed neighborhoods. By donating to an approved NIP organization, contributors can support their communities and earn credits to reduce certain West Virginia taxes.

For more information or credit availability, call Brenda Hunt at 304-457-1295. Information about the Neighborhood Investment Program may also be found on the West Virginia Development Office’s website at www.wvdo.org on the Community Advancement & Development page (select financial resources from menu on the left side of the page, then select neighborhood investment program).
