PHILIPPI — This weekend, the Philippi Public Library will resume “Sensational Saturday,” a program offering activities for all ages.

From 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, there will be a “Tracing Your Family Tree” class for beginner adults and teens to learn the basics of how to search their family history using Ancestry.com Library Edition. Director Judy Buckner Larry will give an introductory lesson on using research forms and Ancestry.com, and researchers may use the library’s computers to begin their search.

The library will offer “Building with Magnets” from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This is a family event designed for adults, teens and children.

The library also will welcome back “Dog Tales — Reading to Mountaineer Therapy Dogs” from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. This unique literacy program pairs the children with the specially trained therapy dogs. The dogs are registered and insured therapy dogs that act as nonjudgmental listeners for young readers.

Mountaineer Therapy Dogs participate in therapy dog reading programs at several libraries. The registered therapy dog teams can help improve a child’s reading skills and increase their confidence.

During this time, the library also will offer registration for Barbour County children under the age of 5 for Dolly Parton Imagination Library books. Children receive a free, age-appropriate book in the mail monthly. The library will also register preschool children for “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.”

Space for each of these programs is limited and registration is required. More information about any of these programs is available by calling 304-457-3495 or stopping by the library.
