Ice elected state Elks president

DAVIS — Walter S. Ice of Charleston Elks Lodge No. 207 was elected president of the West Virginia Elks Association at that group’s annual convention at Canaan Valley Resort.

As the leader of some 6,000 Elks members in West Virginia, Ice and his wife, Jennifer, will visit each of the 19 West Virginia Elks Lodges during his year in office.

Ice will represent the West Virginia Elks at the Elks National Convention in San Antonio in July.

“I am proud of the work the Elks do for youth and our nation’s veterans,” Ice said. “I like to think we make 19 communities in West Virginia a better place to live.”

Also elected during the three-day convention were Vice Presidents Bill Verelst of Weirton, Dennis Hayes of Mannington and Archie Brackens of Lewisburg. More than 150 Elks and their families from West Virginia’s 19 Elks Lodge attended the convention.

The delegates voted to continue funding the Elks Summer Camp for Handicapped Children near Princeton. The group also elected to distribute college scholarships totaling more than $75,000 to high school seniors from throughout West Virginia.
