Praise Band to perform

PHILIPPI — The Haven of Hope Church Praise Band will provide special music during this week’s annual banquet of the Barbour Chamber of Commerce.

A punch-bowl reception for guest speaker John Ebert will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday followed by dinner and music at 6:30 p.m. in the Blue & Gold Dining Room at Alderson Broaddus University. Reservations are required. Further information can be obtained by contacting the chamber office.

Directed by Pastor Benita Swick, the Haven of Hope Praise Band consists of Hanna Swick, Dillon Westfall, Dave Ryan, Steve Hill and Mellisa Simmons.

Benita Swick has performed on international Christian television, and her CD, “One Life to Live,” consists of original songs written and performed by the guitarist.

The Haven of Hope Church was founded in 1993 on U.S. 250 between Philippi and Belington, and holds worship services and children’s church at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday mornings, Teen Church at 6 p.m. on Sunday nights, and a Wednesday evening Bible Study at 7 p.m.

The church takes part in several mission projects, including the Hope’s Mission Thrift Store on Main Street in Philippi; Hope’s Mission Food Pantry, which delivered 130,000 pounds of food in 2017; Mission 3:16 Outreach, which provides food, clothing and home supplies annually at the Barbour County Fairgrounds; a Hope for Christmas Toy Drive, which served 2,000 to 3,000 children each year for the past 17 years; and a food both during the county fair.
