ELKINS — Local Allstate agents Travis Abel and Mark Scott continue to support nonprofit community organizations through the Allstate Foundation Good Hands in the Community Grants. Over the past years they have volunteered with and provided grant funding to many different nonprofit organizations.

The Allstate Foundation provides opportunities for agents to volunteer for and award grant funding to nonprofit organizations within their communities. To recognize outstanding community involvement, The Allstate Foundation awards $500 and $1,000 grants to nonprofit organizations with Allstate volunteers. These grants are by invitation only from the Allstate volunteer.

In 2018 Abel and Scott continued their support of local organizations and invited the organizers of the West Virginia Strawberry Festival and the Jack Barker Memorial Canoe Race to apply for the $1,000 grant.

“Canoe racing was something my dad and I enjoyed doing together. My mom and I are happy that the Strawberry Festival gives us the opportunity to honor his memory every year,” Adam Barker said. “We are very thankful to Travis and Allstate for awarding us with this grant.”

The Barker family used the grant funds to purchase T-shirts and a large banner to stretch across the Buckhannon River at the starting line. Abel remarked that he is pleased to be in a position that allows him to help different groups throughout the community and he looks forward to being able to help many organizations in the community.
