ELKINS – Highland Adventist School students ended their year with a weeklong study tour to the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The group visited the North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island where students studied shark anatomy with the aquarium naturalists.

At Festival Park on Roanoke Island the students experienced a little of the early history of the region. During their guided kayak trip into the maritime forest, the students saw water moccasins and turtles. The group also took a guided tour into the sand dunes of Corolla on a successful hunt for wild horses and found lots of dolphins on the dolphin cruise.

“The value of our field trip program is huge,” states Cheryl Jacko, principal. “In addition to all the hands-on learning that happens during these outings, our students, their families, and our staff make friendships and memories to last a lifetime. This year’s end of year trip was a huge success. We thank all the local people and businesses who supported our fundraising for this trip.”
