Garden Club announces raffle winner
TENNERTON — The Fred Brooks Garden Club drew the winning name for WVU/Bird themed Raffle Basket at Festival Friday on Aug. 24. Liam Day, a smiling attendee of the Festival Friday, drew the winning ticket for the basket. Holly Green of Buckhannon was the winner of the basket filled with WVU and bird related gifts.
The next fundraiser to be held by the Fred Brooks Garden Club will be a pancake breakfast at and sponsored by C.J. Maggie’s from 8-10 a.m. Oct. 13. C.J. Maggie’s provides the pancakes, sausage and drink for each person who buys a ticket from a Garden Club member, with the Garden Club members ready to serve the pancakes up hot and fresh to all. All proceeds go to the Fred Brooks Garden Club. Walk-ins are very welcome that morning. Carry-out is also an option for walk-ins that morning.
The Fred Brooks Garden Club uses money generated from the fundraisers to support the club activities, which include buying and planting the flowers at the Upshur County Courthouse, Health Department, Blue Star Memorial and Fred Brooks Park flower beds. The club provides educational activities to local schools and brings garden therapy activities to residents of organizations like Serenity Care and the St. Joseph’s Nursing Care Facility. The club meets monthly at the Tennerton Methodist Church.
