Local businesses honored by magazine

ELKINS — WV Living has recognized several Elkins-area favorites in the magazine’s annual “Best of West Virginia” list.

Big Timber Brewing Company won the “best brewery” category for the first time. In addition to statewide categories, the 2018 list also includes regional winners. For the Potomac Highlands region, the Mountain State Forest Festival won the “best fair/festival/event” category.

TipTop Coffee & Cocktails in Thomas won “best coffeehouse” for the second time, and The White Room won “best art gallery.” Blackwater Falls State Park was chosen as “best state park” for the sixth time and, for the second time, Thomas and Davis share the award for “best town to experience winter.

In Pocahontas County, Snowshoe Mountain Resort won “best ski resort” for the sixth year, and Frostmore Farm in Dunmore won “best maple syrup.”

For the Potomac Highlands region, the Green Bank Telescope won “best unique attraction,” Stumptown Ales won “best watering hole” and Canaan Valley won “best recreation venue.”

“I love that our 10th anniversary issue contains our annual Best of West Virginia winners, because WV Living is all about showcasing the people and the places that make our state unique,” founder and publisher Nikki Bowman said. “It’s more than just a magazine — we’re a community builder. We tell the story of who we are, and who we are becoming.”

This is the magazine’s sixth-annual “Best of West Virginia” list. Each year, WV Living asks its readers to nominate their favorite restaurants, shops, towns, destinations, people, and more. Those nominations-which numbered in the thousands for 2018-are tallied to determine each year’s list.
