Pageants planned in Elkins

ELKINS — The Miss Elkins Area and Outstanding Teen competition is scheduled for March 8-9 at the Gandy Dancer Theater in Elkins.

The Miss and Teen winners will represent the Elkins Area in the Miss West Virginia and Outstanding Teen Pageant scheduled for June 2019 in Clarksburg. Young ladies in Randolph County are strongly encouraged to participate. If six contestants enter each age group, the competition will also award the titles of Miss Tygart Valley and Outstanding Teen.

Teen contestants must be between the ages of 13-17, but not a high school senior and attend a school in West Virginia. Miss contestants must be between the ages of 17-25, and attend school, reside or work in West Virginia. They will compete in the areas of onstage interview, six minute private (Miss contestants have a 10 minute interview), a 90 second talent presentation, evening wear and lifestyle and fitness. This is the final year that local Miss contestants will compete in swimsuit. Contestants must also submit a resume and platform statement.

The Miss and Teen winner will win the official Miss America sash and crown, flowers and a $250 photo package from Country Charms photography. The Teen winner will receive a $100 scholarship that will help cover costs for the Miss West Virginia’s Outstanding Teen competition. The Miss winner will receive a scholarship to be used to cover educational expenses.

Interviews for the competition will begin at 9 a.m. followed by rehearsals, and the onstage competition will begin at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the public is invited to attend. There is an admission fee. Young ladies who are interested in competing can email or for more information and required paperwork.
