DNR officer to address neighborhood watch

Residents from the communities of Audra, Volga, Hall, Boulder, Carrolton Road and Buckhannon River Road communities are invited to the monthly Southwestern Barbour County Neighborhood Watch meeting scheduled for at 6:30 p.m. April 1 in the social hall of the Bethany Baptist Church at Hall.

The guest speaker will Upshur County DNR Officer Tanner Collins, who will be addressing hunting laws in our area. One of the main concerns of the group is defending their property if they should encounter illegal trespassers on their properties engaged in hunting or poaching out of season.

The West Virginia Department of Natural Resources is our state agency empowered to enforce hunting and fishing regulations. Not only do they act as law enforcement agents, but they perform a variety of duties, such as protecting our natural resources and practicing conservation. They also play a role in educating the public about hunting, fishing and boat safety. They enforce littering, environmental waste and dumping laws, as well as policing our waterways. Our rugged terrain in this area makes their jobs challenging, but rewarding.

Please make plans to attend to join in an open discussion with DNR Officer Collins and learn more about how his agency is vital to our neighborhood. For further information, call 304-457-3125.
