Elkins City Hall News
City Council Committee members are settling into their new meeting times and adjusting to new committee dynamics.
Next week the Municipal Properties Committee will convene at 9 a.m. on Wednesday to discuss the Elkins Main Street Streetscape plan in general and downtown parking meters in particular. Council took action last week to increase the free parking limit imposed Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., from two hours to three hours. This hasn’t been widely announced until the committee can work with Operations and the EPD to be sure proper signage and enforcement is in place.
At 1 p.m. that same day the Planning Commission will meet to continue work on the new zoning ordinance. A few of the topics up for discussion are landscaping and medical marijuana.
The council meeting that would normally occur on the third Thursday, has been moved to the third Tuesday to coincide with a state requirement regarding the laying of the levy. This action occurs annually and signifies the final step in the budget process for the upcoming fiscal year. This special meeting will take place at 7 p.m. and will also include all the business normally addressed by council.
Lastly, City Hall will be closed on Friday in observance of the Easter holiday.
