PHILIPPI — Philippi Main Street will host 25 visual artists, 10 individual and group musical artists, and possibly dance artists at this year’s annual Philippi Art Stroll on Friday, April 26 from 5-8 p.m. in 22 exhibit sites in downtown Philippi. And in the midst of all this, visual artists will be set up somewhere on Main Street as they paint their perspectives of Philippi’s Main Street as part of this year’s Plein Air project.

Artists still wanting to participate in the Plein Air project are asked to contact Main Street Director Tammy Stemple at 304-457-3700, Ext. 228 for details and to register. Registration forms are also available on Main Street’s Facebook page.

A new addition to this year’s musical interludes will be Vets with Guitars associated with Clarksburg’s Louis A. Johnson VA Center. Vets with Guitars is a nonprofit organization that provides support to disabled veterans through the healing power of music by providing a free guitar and lessons in a structured program run by volunteers. Upon completing the program, the vets are given an acoustic guitar to keep. Vets can continue the program as long as they choose. Anyone wanting more information can contact the organization at 304-623-3461 Ext. 3050 and can stop by the Art Stroll exhibit site, the Taj Moe Hal, to hear the music and talk with the musical vets.

“We hear a rumor that something special will take place on Friday, April 26 about 6 p.m. near the Courthouse Square. We suggest strollers be in a position to see this spot on Main Street,” says Main Street Director Tammy Stemple. Stemple also notes that Wanderlust, one of the exhibit sites, will have a comedian as part of its calendar of events Friday evening immediately following the Art Stroll at 8 p.m. Once the Art Stroll exhibits clear the business spot, an admission will be charged for Wanderlust’s entertainment.

The Main Street Art Stroll Committee expresses its thanks to the artists and the business and organization locations that have volunteered to be part of this annual event. The Art Stroll has welcomed nearly 300 strollers to Philippi’s Main Street every spring.
