Elkins City Hall News

In observation of Memorial Day, City Hall will be closed on Monday. The city like to recognize all current and previous employees of the city, as well as members of the community, for their service. City officials and staff will be back to work on Tuesday, including meeting with the Recycling Committee at 4:30 p.m. to talk about the ongoing glass recycling program, potential grant opportunities and new project ideas. Join the meeting in room 212 of City Hall to hear more about it. Also at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, the Planning Commission will meet to continue final adjustments to the proposed zoning ordinance.

The City’s zoning laws have not been updated since the late 1950’s and are in need of a refresh to address current needs and future potential. Since the adoption of the City’s comprehensive plan in 2015, the Commission has worked with the WVU Land Use and Sustainable Development Clinic to update these regulations. Once finalized by the committee, the ordinance will be presented to the public for comment, and then to council for consideration and adoption.
