Elkins City Hall News
The Rules and Ordinances Committee met this past Thursday to discuss food trucks in Elkins. The current City Code contains no provisions directly related to this up and coming industry and, in fact, some perceived restrictions. Learning from the ordinances of other municipalities around the state and applying our own experiences, the committee is hoping to draft an ordinance that will encourage the growth of this entrepreneurial industry in a fair and safe way. A draft ordinance will be considered at the next R&O meeting in June.
Next week at City Hall, both the Public Safety and Personnel Committees will meet on Monday, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. respectively. Public Safety’s main topic of discussion will be squatters, while Personnel has a number of items on their agenda, including training for City officials and employees.
The Municipal Properties meeting normally occurring on the third Wednesday of each month has been moved to May 23 at 9 a.m. City Council will convene, as usual, next Thursday at 7 p.m. Council will hear presentations from the Randolph-Tucker Children’s Advocacy Center and the Elkins-Randolph County Library at the start of that meeting. Their business will include consideration of the proposed codification agreement, budget revisions for FY19, and the application of an RCDI grant.
