Upshur SWA awards $1,200 to schools

All nine Upshur County Schools, with over 3,700 students, participated in a “Bounty” recycling contest as conducted by the Upshur County Solid Waste Authority in the 2018—19 school year. A total of 84,680 pounds (42.34 tons) of paper, plastics or metal cans were collected and recycled at the City of Buckhannon Recycling Center. The contest was based upon the pounds per student for each school. Washington District with 28.55 pounds per student won the first place prize of $250; Buckhannon-Upshur High School won the third place prize of $200 with 26.69 per student; and Union Elementary won the third place prize of $150 with 23.68 per student. All schools were awarded money for participating. The money can be used for needs at the individual school.
