Yokum

The West Virginia Association of Counties (WVACo) is proud to announce that Phyllis Yokum, has been named president for FY2019/2020. Yokum took office on June 3 in Tucker County, at the 2019 WVACo Spring Board Meeting.

“County elected officials are the face of county government. We are the people who help our citizens take care of the business of their daily lives,” stated Yokum, upon assuming her duties as association president. “Whether they are filing their assessment, paying taxes, recording a deed, registering to vote, or any other numerous services that are handled at the courthouse, we are the people they are in contact with on a face to face basis.”

Yokum currently serves as the assessor in Randolph County, first elected in 2004 after having served as deputy assessor for 22 years.

“As elected officials, our commitment is to serve our county and the people who elect us to do our jobs. I bring that same commitment to the West Virginia Association of Counties. I am honored to serve as president of this exceptional organization comprised of all elected officials from the county level and which is a united representation for issues facing counties and ultimately impacting our citizens.”

Yokum resides with her husband, Rick, at Bowden. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Ashley and Tessa, and grandparents of six. She was awarded the Association of WV Assessors Special Service Award and the Ralph C. Boyles Memorial Achievement Assessor of the Year Award in 2010. Yokum served as president of the Association of WV Assessors 2012-2013. She is the secretary of the Dry Fork Recreation Center Inc.
