HARMAN — Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5781 of Harman recently concluded a two-year project with the installation of a Veterans Memorial on ground donated by the Harman Fire Department.

The idea for the memorial came from Wanda Bishop, a member of the VFW Auxiliary. The process began by applying for a $1,000 grant from the VFW Foundation, which was approved and the balance of the money for the project came from donations from local individuals and businesses.

The design for the monument was created by several members of the auxiliary and crafted by Gary Godwin of Randolph Memorial Co.

The memorial was dedicated on July 4 during the annual Fire Department activities. Guest speakers included State VFW Commander Trenton Pauley, Delegate Bill Hartman and JoBeth Delawder, spokesperson from Sen. Joe Manchin’s office.

At the conclusion of the tributes, the flags were raised and the monument unveiled. The monument is a tribute to all veterans who fought and died for their country.
