Depot gets certificate of excellence

ELKINS — The Elkins Depot Welcome Center CVB, a hub for community and visitor information in Randolph County, was presented a Certificate of Excellence award from TripAdvisor for the 2019 year. This marks the fourth year in a row for the Center to receive this award.

The 2019 Certificate of Excellence celebrates businesses that have consistently received strong praise and ratings from travelers. This recognition allows TripAdvisor to publicly honor businesses that are actively engaging with customers and using feedback to help travelers identify and confidently book the perfect trip. The Certificate of Excellence takes into account the quality, quantity and recency of reviews submitted by travelers on TripAdvisor over a 12-month period.

Those chosen for TripAdvisor’s Certificate of Excellence have ranked highly in their category among similar organizations. The Welcome Center’s friendly atmosphere and the convenient location was a theme among the many reviews.

One reviewer from Providence Forge, Virginia, said, “The Depot Welcome Center has it all! Excellent source of information for visitors and locals alike. The friendly folks working there can help you with about anything you need to know about Elkins and Randolph County. Informative brochures will help you to make decisions on dining, lodging and the many attractions in the area. The Welcome Center is also an excellent place to explore and shop while waiting to board your excursion train or while waiting for a concert in the park behind the Depot.

Staffed primarily by volunteers, the Welcome Center’s commitment to excellence in visitor services is easy to see by the professional manner and through the knowledge shared with tourists. Becoming knowledgeable about the vast array of opportunities available in Elkins and Randolph County is key for the Center’s success as well as partnering with the community organizations to accomplish events and activities.

Making itself available for the 44,000 plus tourists it serves in a year is another key factor in the Center’s success. Open seven days a week throughout the busiest seasons the Center visitors from all over the country and world.

Executive Director Anne Beardslee and the Board of Directors are honored to receive the award from TripAdvisor and are proud of the work the Elkins Depot Welcome Center has accomplished in its 13 years of operation.

Beardslee states, “Working with such a professional group of volunteers that love Elkins and want to contribute to its success, makes not just coming to work each day, but managing the operations of the Center a real pleasure.”
