Philippi and AMP host McKinley

ST. MARYS — American Municipal Power Inc., along with the city of Philippi, hosted Congressman David B. McKinley, R-W.Va., for a tour of AMP’s Willow Island hydropower facility along the Ohio River.

The Willow Island Hydroelectric Project is a 44 MW run-of-the-river hydroelectric power plant that provides renewable generation to the region. The facility is located near St. Marys on the Ohio River.

The city of Philippi is a public power community, whereas its electric distribution system is operated by the city and provides the community with reliable, responsive, not-for-profit electric service. As a public power community, the city of Philippi’s electric utility offers distinct benefits to their customer-owners.
