ELKINS — The Elkins Purple Majesties Red Hats enjoyed a delicious buffet luncheon in the Stillwater Restaurant at Stonewall Resort on Sept. 9, officials said. Queen Mother BJ McKenzie presided over the meeting.

A huge “thank you” goes out to Duchesses Charlotte Thomas and Gerri Rosencrance for coordinating this event, officials said. Thomas made sweet little fall leaf design clip on pins for the favors. And a special thank you to all former queens for donating the mums for the ticket drawing — which is the tradition for this particular gathering each year.

Rosencrance also provided some items purchased from the Tattered Rose Boutique in Marlinton to add to the mystery of this “fun” ticket drawing. Occasionally the Purple Majesties raffle off a special item, and Carole Helmick was the winner of a set of eight beautiful placemats made by Gayle Zirkle.

The membership booklet will go to the printer in October. Members who have not paid dues for the upcoming year will be deleted from the book. Anyone wishing to pay dues, call Queen BJ at the 304-614-3079.

After the blessing members enjoyed a delicious buffet lunch, complete with red velvet cake and brownies for dessert. The traditional warning was led by Queen Mother McKenzie.

The tradition of crowning a new Queen Mother is always held during this annual gathering. Current Queen Mother B.J. McKenzie agreed to continue her reign for another year. All past queens participated in the traditional ceremony during the coronation.

The next Purple Majesties Luncheon will be held Oct. 14 at the First Baptist Church in Parsons. The luncheon will be catered by John Bush of Big John’s Family Fixin’s.

All members are encouraged to attend and new members are always

welcome.

If you would like to join this fun loving “nifty after 50” group or make a reservation for the October luncheon, call Queen Mother B.J. McKenzie at 304-614-3079.
