MSFF, ESGC looking for Fall Yards

Submitted photos A past winner of the Fall Yard award was Nayoka Guthrie. Her home reflected the spirit of fall wonder that included displays of fall leaves, mums, flags, scarecrows and pumpkins. The large, inviting porch carried forward the theme with soft leaf pillows and comforters of rich seasonal colors.
Panhandle Support Services on Third Street received the Fall Business Yard during a previous selection year. Clever and creative displays, both outside and within the front window, were the reason this was a hands-down winner. The window area housed an old women bent over a harvest basket, an antique corn sheller and a cauldron. The scene was framed, both inside and out, with leaves, cornstalks and hay bales.

Members of the Emma Scott Garden Club will be scouting neighborhoods and local business to select Fall Yards of the Month Monday, Sept. 30. This partnership with the Mountain State Forest Festival is to encourage the community to “dress up” their properties and businesses with the wide range of colors and eye catching symbols of fall. All this is in preparation for the celebration that locally defines the change of seasons. Each winner will receive a Fall Festival Yard sign to display at their location for the month of October and a gift from the MSFF.

If you have any suggestions for this award, call the MSFF office at 304-636-1824 or an ESGC member at 304-636-0415.
