Elkins man arrested for kidnapping charge

A 19-year-old Elkins man is being held in lieu of a $50,000 cash only bond after being arrested for kidnapping.

James Erving Cornett, 19, was being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail at presstime after being arrested Tuesday afternoon on a felony charge of kidnapping, abduction and concealment of a child.

Sheriff Mark Brady told The Inter-Mountain that police responded Tuesday afternoon to a domestic incident between Cornett and his sister at the Mountaineer Apartments in Beverly.

While investigating the incident, officers ran a National Crime Information Center search on Cornett and found an outstanding kidnapping warrant in his name, Brady said.

The incident for which the warrant was issued occurred last fall in Elkins, Brady said.

The investigating officer in the case is Deputy D.L. Van Meter.
