Man charged in series of break-ins

A French Creek man is being held at the Tygart Valley Regional Jail in lieu of $95,000 after he allegedly confessed to sheriff deputies about his involvement in a serious of break-ins.

Dustin Joel Mills, 25, of Route 1, Box 163F, is facing charges of breaking and entering, grand larceny and petit larceny after being arrested Jan. 31 at his home.

According to the complaint in Upshur County Magistrate Court, deputies responded to the report of a disturbance at Mills residence on Hinkle Ridge.

The complaint stated that Mills allowed deputies to search his residence, and they discovered a generator which had been reported stolen to the sheriff’s department a few days earlier.

The Upshur County Sheriff’s Department stated that more than $5,000 in stolen equipment was recovered, which was believed to have been taken during breaking-and-enterings in the Alton, French Creek, Childers Run, Brooks Hill and Alexander areas of the county.

Sheriff David Coffman said more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.
