Rotary Fun Night set to rock

A rockin’ good time awaits anyone who heads out to the Elkins Rotary Club’s Fun Night fundraiser, an annual event that has new types of entertainment this year.

In addition to cash prizes, food, a silent auction and a live auction, the fundraising event will feature a rock ‘n’ roll theme complete with a five-piece band – Tim White and Friends.

“They’re going to do ’50s, ’60s and ’70s music,” said Rotary member Amy Schumacher, one of the Fun Night organizers, adding that the new rock ‘n’ roll theme isn’t the only change for the popular annual event.

This year, the Fun Night is set to take place from 6 to 10 p.m. March 9 at the Beverly Volunteer Fire Department – instead of the old Armory location.

One thing that hasn’t changed will be prizes, and lots of them. Cash and prize giveaways will be conducted through the night, including one $1,000 prize, four $250 prizes and eight $100 prizes.

Schumacher also said the auctions will feature great items, with everything from unique artwork to a basketball autographed by former professional basketball player Rodney “Hot Rod” Hundley. The Inter-Mountain has donated Pirates tickets to be part of the auction as well.

Schumacher encourages everyone to come out, enjoy the food and entertainment and support a good cause.

“It’s usually a fun time to hang out,” she said.

Heather Goodwin Henline, another Fun Night organizer and publisher/general manager of The Inter-Mountain, said Fun Night is the Elkins Rotary Club’s major fundraiser of the year. It helps pay for Rotary grants and scholarships that are given to area schools and libraries – funds that have a positive impact in the community.

For example, Elkins Rotary donated $5,500 in grant money this summer. Some of those funds supported a summer reading program at Valley Head Library, the purchase of e-books at the Elkins-Randolph County Library and learning materials for special needs students in the county.

“You don’t have to be a member of Rotary to come out and have a good time,” Henline said about the fundraiser. “Everyone is welcome, and it really is a nice night out.”

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Davis Trust Co. and The Inter-Mountain, or by contacting any Rotary Club member. Tickets are $100 per person or couple. The Inter-Mountain can be reached by calling 304-636-2121, and it is located at 520 Railroad Ave., Elkins.
