Barbour man arrested on heroin charges

A Barbour County man was arrested Sunday for allegedly possessing approximately $1,000 worth of heroin.

Travis Wayne Felton, 28, was charged with possession of heroin with intent to deliver, a felony, according to a press release from Belington Chief of Police Keith Rowan issued Monday afternoon.

The release states the Belington Police Department responded to a drug complaint from Barbour County E-911 at about 10 p.m. Sunday. Patrolman First Class Hymes with the BPD was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Watkins Street in Belington, where he met with the home owner.

“The home owner advised Officer Hymes that she had just got home and had found a bunch of needles and drugs in her bathroom and wanted them removed,” Rowan wrote in the release.

Inside the residence, Hymes found “several needles” in addition to a clear bag with several individually packaged red bags with powder in them. Hymes field-tested the powder, which proved to be heroin, the release states. Rowan estimated the street value of the heroin at approximately $1,000.

The release did not explain the relationship between Felton and the homeowner or how drugs that allegedly belonged to Felton ended up in someone else’s residence. Rowan was unavailable for comment Monday afternoon.

The Barbour County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation. Felton was lodged in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $20,000 bond as of presstime.
