Fire damages Elkins church

Area fire fighters fought a blaze that broke out at approximately 10:55 p.m. Saturday evening at an Elkins church.

Members of the Elkins Volunteer Fire Department, Leading Creek Volunteer Fire Department and Beverly Fire Department worked on the fire for three-and-a-half hours.

“The flames were contained to the bell tower and front of the Central Baptist Church Building on Country Club Road in Elkins,” Elkins fire fighter J.W. Jones said.

“The rest of the building sustained heavy smoke and water damage.”

Jones said members of the Belington Volunteer Fire Department covered the Elkins Fire Department during the fire. He also said a member of the West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to investigate the blaze.

No estimates of total damage are available at this time.

Members of the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office and Randolph County EMS also assisted at the scene. No injuries were reported.
