Volunteers sought for summer cook-off
Create Buckhannon, in conjunction with its Festival Fridays celebrations, is looking to sponsor a Country Roads Cook-off this summer.
Times and dates have not been set, and officials with Create Buckhannon are looking for volunteers to help organize the event. Those interested should contact C.J. Rylands at firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
Rylands said the contest, which will offer prizes and a chance to compete at a higher level, is open to amateur cooks, and the recipes are supposed to have some sort of cultural tie to the contestant.
“You need to have a little story around it,” he said, noting it could be something as simple as a recipe passed down through the generations.
At least six contestants are needed for the competition, and a first prize and a People’s Choice Award will be given. Rylands said the event will be hosted as part of an undetermined Festival Friday at Jawbone Park.
Contestants will have time to prepare their concoction at the event, but should make enough samples for the judges and for the public to try.
“The Bridgeport Farmers Market has done this for the last three years,” Rylands said, “and they get more people at that Sunday than they do for any other Sunday.”
