Elkins man charged with meth possession

An Elkins man who was arrested for alleged possession of methamphetamine Wednesday was still under the influence Thursday afternoon and had yet to be arraigned, officials with the Randolph County Magistrate Clerk’s office said.

Elkins Police Chief H.R. White said officers with the EPD arrested Joshua Jerome Raeder, 25, on charges of possession of a Schedule II controlled substance, methamphetamine, a misdemeanor, Wednesday.

“We had gotten a call to respond to the Gateway Apartments complex because there was an individual acting odd,” White said. “He was arrested on a misdemeanor possession charge. It was not for selling or manufacturing.”

Officials with the Magistrate Clerk’s office said Raeder hadn’t been arraigned as of 2:30 p.m. Thursday because he was still under the influence of controlled substances.

White said the EPD was still investigating the case.

“We are continuing our investigation into this matter,” the chief said.

Raeder remained in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail as of presstime.
