Morrissey to speak at Lincoln Day Dinner
Residents will have the chance to hear the first Republican attorney general to serve West Virginia in 80 years speak in Elkins this weekend.
State Attorney General Patrick Morrissey will address attendees of the Randolph County Republican Executive Committee’s Lincoln Day Dinner Saturday at the Elks Club on Country Club Road.
Social hour gets underway at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m.
Thus far, 75 people have registered, but more are encouraged to attend and walk-ins are welcome, said Carolyn Jackson, chairperson of the Randolph County Republican Executive Committee.
Tickets cost $20 at the door.
Jackson said Randolph County residents should make the trip, “to hear Patrick Morrissey, our new attorney general, and to see the changes that he is making in the attorney general’s office.”
Sen. Clark Barnes, R-Randolph, will also appear to discuss recent activity in the state Legislature, and retired journalist George Moore, who writes a column for The Inter-Mountain, is also on the docket of scheduled speakers.
Morrissey is the first Republican to be elected attorney general since 1933. A resident of Harpers Ferry, he is also the first attorney general from Jefferson County in the state’s history.
Morrisey has worked as a lawyer since 1992, often on many high-profile health care matters prior to election.
He has a broad array of experience on regulatory issues, including Medicare, Medicaid, policy, fraud and abuse investigations, legislative matters, strategic counseling and legal and policy challenges to federal statutes and regulations, according to his website, www.wvago.gov.
Morrissey aided in the successful multi-state challenge to the Affordable Care Act and additionally advised members of Congress on tactics they could utilize to repeal the national health care law.
Morrisey earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in history and political science from Rutgers College in 1989, and a juris doctor from Rutgers Law School-Newark in 1992.
