DNR plans boating education course

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources will host a boating education class for Lewis and Upshur counties at the Stonewall Jackson Resort State Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

This is a seven-hour course and students must attend all sessions to be certified. In 1998, West Virginia passed legislation that requires any person born after December 31, 1985, to successfully complete an approved boating education course before operating a motorboat or PWC in the State of West Virginia.

The course is open to the public and is free of charge. Any age individual may attend, however only students at least 11 years of age who have passed the test will receive a certificate of completion. Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.

Class size is limited, so preregistration is required. Anyone who would like to register or get additional information can contact the WV DNR District 3 office at 304-924-6211 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
