Phillip Phillips benefit concert postponed

Although very few tickets remained unsold, a concert to benefit the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA will have to be postponed.

Singer-guitarist Phillip Phillips, winner of the 11th season of American Idol, was scheduled to appear May 14 at Davis & Elkins College. But Monday, officials notified the college that Phillips has postponed the remainder of his spring tour due to illness.

Sid Gillispie, executive director of the YMCA, said Monday a reschedule date has not yet been set and further details will be released when available. YMCA officials had planned to use the proceeds from the show to improve the YMCA’s sprinkler system and fire alarms and for swimming pool renovations.

Representatives from Phillips’ management said in a press release, “Due to several medical reasons, Phillip Phillips will not be able to conclude his remaining tour dates in May. He looks forward to getting healthy, seeing everyone on the John Mayer tour this summer and rescheduling the shows he missed for the fall.”

Phillips’ posts on Facebook and Twitter Monday said, “Hey guys, due to doctor’s orders I have to reschedule my last tour dates. They will be rescheduled! Looking forward to seeing you on Mayer!”

Previously purchased tickets will be valid for the future show. Refunds for locally purchased tickets are available through the YMCA and online purchased tickets can be refunded by contacting 1-800-594-TIXX.
