Taste of Home tickets offered to Phillips fans

In support of the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA and the community, The Inter-Mountain is offering a no-strings attached invitation to those affected by the postponement of ‘American Idol’ winner Phillip Phillips’ May 14 benefit concert in Elkins.

“We will make general admission tickets to our upcoming Taste of Home Cooking School available to those who hold tickets to the Phillip Phillips concert,” said Heather Goodwin Henline, publisher/general manager of The Inter-Mountain.

The Taste of Home event will kick off with a vendor fair at 2 p.m. and cooking show beginning at 6:30 p.m. May 23 at the National Guard Armory, located off Route 33 near Belington.

“These tickets are not to be in place of the Phillip Phillips concert nor are they offered in lieu of a refund,” Henline added. “We want to support those who support the YMCA and invite them to enjoy our May event. It may not be Phillip Phillips’ ‘Home,’ but another kind of home we are inviting people to come and enjoy.”

Singer-guitarist Phillips, winner of the 11th season of ‘American Idol,’ was scheduled to appear May 14 at Davis & Elkins College for a concert to benefit the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA. On Monday, however, officials notified the college that Phillips had postponed the remainder of his spring tour due to illness.

Sid Gillispie, executive director of the YMCA, said a reschedule date has not yet been set and further details will be released when available. YMCA officials had planned to use the proceeds from the show to improve the YMCA’s sprinkler system and fire alarms and for swimming pool renovations.

Henline said the Taste of Home Cooking School is a national event, and the Taste of Home Publication is a subsidiary of Reader’s Digest.

“This event offers amazing fun with food, shopping and a live cooking event,” Henline said. “It is for all ages, and will appeal to both men and women.”

The tickets for the Taste of Home Cooking School, a $10 value, are available at the Elkins-Randolph County YMCA and The Inter-Mountain office on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Previously purchased tickets for Phillip Phillips will be valid for the future show. Refunds for locally purchased tickets are available through the YMCA and tickets purchased online can be refunded by contacting 1-800-594-TIXX.
