Lampinen recognized at final board meeting
Scott Lampinen attended his last Upshur County Board of Education meeting in his capacity as superintendent of schools Tuesday, before handing over the reins to his successor, Roy Wager.
The Upshur BOE took time during the meeting to recognize Lampinen for his 35 years of service to the Upshur County school system.
“It’s been a pleasure working with you,” vice president Alan Suder told Lampinen. “I wish you the best. Enjoy your retirement.”
Board member Greenbrier Almond also gave Lampinen his best wishes. Lampinen was honored with a plaque to commemorate his service.
“It’s truly been a pleasure to work with Upshur County schools,” Lampinen said. “It has been an honor to work for and with the students, staff and the Upshur County community.”
Lampinen also recognized his wife, Melissa, saying “she’s been my rock” throughout the years.
President Teresa Bellamy told Lampinen, “I think you have made a difference.”
Lampinen announced his retirement in May. Wager was appointed at a special meeting June 4, and will assume the superintendent’s duties July 1.
Also during Tuesday’s meeting:
- Treasurer George Carver said he should have some information regarding the school levy at the next meeting at 7 p.m., July 9, at the Board of Education Office. The school board will consider running another levy, officials said. The levy in place will soon be expiring.
- Upcoming dates for school board meetings through June of next year were approved with the locations being subject to change.
Board member Patrick Long pointed out that the school board usually goes out into the community for some of its meetings. He said that with levy discussions around the corner, it would be a good time for the school board to once again consider changing some of its meeting locations.
- The board appointed Molly Campbell as a member of the Upshur County Public Library Board of Trustees for a five-year term to begin July 1.
- The school board approved the renewal of its workers compensation insurance coverage with Westfield Insurance.
