Moatsville resident earns physical therapy degree from Duke

Michelle Duckworth, from Moatsville, received her Doctor of Physical Therapy from Duke University May 12.

Duckworth began her education at Kasson Elementary/Middle School. She then attended Philip Barbour High School where she was a member of the volleyball team that won the 2005 West Virginia State Volleyball Championship. She graduated as the valedictorian of the class of 2006 before continuing her academic and athletic careers at Alderson Broaddus University, formerly known as Alderson-Broaddus College.

While at A-B, she earned the WVIAC Senior Scholar Athlete Award and the Athletic Training Academic Award and graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training with a minor in strength and conditioning in 2010. Upon graduating from A-B, she began her physical therapy studies at Duke University in Durham, N.C.

Duckworth plans to work at Results Physiotherapy in Nashville, Tenn., and is the daughter of Jesse and Alicia Duckworth of Moatsville and the granddaughter of Hubert Nestor of Moatsville and the late Mae Nestor and Holty and Sharron Bennett of Clemtown.
