Tigers coming back to town
Elkins High School School alumni of all ages will gather this weekend for an informal get-together.
The coordination and organization of the event was spearheaded by Elkins High School graduate Valerie Moore Hawkins, who resides in Pinehurst, N.C.
“Last year was the first time I traveled back to Elkins for a class reunion,” Hawkins said. “I think 10 years is too long between get-togethers.
“A lot can happen in 10 years,” she said.
Hawkins said she decided to initiate this get-together and plans to make sure it happens each year.
“Even if you can only get to a few of these, it gives a time to get together and visit between reunions,” Hawkins said. “I hope this event can happen this same weekend each year to give alumni a set time they can gather each year.”
Hawkins said events on tonight’s schedule include gathering at the Elkins Raceway at 7:30 p.m. and at Armadillo Flats at 10 p.m.
“I have booked the Alpine Pavilion at Stuart’s Park for 1 p.m. Saturday,” Hawkins said. “Everyone should bring a lawn chair, snacks and drinks. At 8 p.m. tonight, we will gather at Beander’s.”
Hawkins said the events are very informal and casual.
“I hope this weekend’s alumni gathering will grow through the years,” she said. “I think it will be fun, and gives Elkins High School graduates another opportunity to come together.”
The event has a Facebook page, listed as “EHS alumni.”
