Donut Hut offering great food, sweet treats

A new business along the Beverly-five lane is aiming to bring a unique dining choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Donut Hut recently opened, but that isn’t stopping innovation of the menu.

“We want to give the area something different, something they don’t have,” Joe Shipley said, explaining the philosophy of his small business. “We are always innovating and adding to our menu.”

The Donut Hut, located across from Glotfelty Tire Center on Beverly Pike, is settling in after its official opening two months ago. The shop features hand-pressed, never frozen, hamburgers, fresh-cut fries, breakfast sandwiches including sausage or bacon egg and cheese muffins and biscuits, and of course doughnuts. The doughnuts come in all sorts of flavors and toppings including Fruity Pebbles and Fruit Loops (both the cereal brands), Oreos, rainbow sprinkles, Reese’s peanut butter, chocolate, coconut, peanuts and some of their signature flavors such as Bavarian Cream, Long John’s (an eclair-type pastry) and the maple bacon doughnut, featuring maple icing and chopped up pieces of real bacon.

The restaurant takes orders for dine-in and take-out, and customers can even call in advance to place their orders.

Kim Shipley, co-owner of The Donut Hut, said that they are always looking for new and interesting ways to cater to their customers including a business deal where people can stop by on their way to or from work and register for a drawing every Thursday to win a free dozen doughnuts every Friday.

There also is a Kid’s Day planned for later this summer that will allow children to come in and decorate their own doughnuts, but no official date has been set.

The Donut Hut is open from 7 a.m to 4 p.m. six-days a week currently, but its are looking to expand its business hours longer and to include business hours on Sundays in the future.

“We wanted to create a fun, clean atmosphere that anyone could come in and enjoy,” Joe Shipley said. “We welcome everyone to come and check out what we have to offer.”
