Open Belington council seat filled

All positions on the Belington City Council are filled, as members voted to appoint David Hamrick to fill the Ward IV seat left vacant by the resignation of Tom Yocum.

Council members voted unanimously to accept Yocum’s resignation during the Aug. 1 meeting, and city code required them to vote to fill the position during Thursday’s meeting. Belington Mayor Bobby King invited residents interested in being considered for the open council position to put their name in consideration.

Hamrick addressed council during Thursday’s meeting asking to be considered for the open spot.

“I am interested in helping the community advance as much as I can and also interested in doing as much as I can with the youth,” Hamrick said. “I do a lot with the youth through coaching, and also help with youth organizations. I believe I can bring a lot to the table.”

Two nominations were considered for the open councilman position, Hamrick and Joey Bolyard. Bolyard received two votes from council members and Hamrick received five votes.

The next regular meeting of the Belington City Council is slated for 7:30 p.m. Sept. 5.
