Mill Creek man arrested for fleeing

A Mill Creek man was arrested Thursday for leading police on a high-speed chase Sunday.

Wesley Allen Adkinson, 28, was charged with fleeing in a vehicle, a felony, and is being held on a $10,000 cash-or-surety bond in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail, where he remained as of presstime.

According to the criminal complaint in the Randolph County Magistrate Clerk’s office, Randolph County Sheriff’s deputies R.H. Foster and B.T. Sharp were traveling south on Channell Road near Mill Creek around 6 p.m. when they saw a green Chevrolet pick-up truck traveling north toward them at a high rate of speed.

Adkinson, the driver, was allegedly left of center, forcing Foster to pull his cruiser onto the shoulder of the road. Foster turned around and attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but was unable to do so because of the high rate of speed at which Adkinson’s truck was traveling, according to the complaint.

Officers eventually lost “visual contact” with Adkinson, whose vehicle was subsequently discovered “in the ditch into an embankment” on the left hand side of the road.

Witnesses on scene informed officers that Adkinson had fled into the woods on foot. Police searched the area but were unable to immediately apprehend Adkinson.
