Missing Barbour woman found

A 44-year-old Belington woman missing from her residence was found nearly three hours later by rescue officials Thursday night.

The woman was reported missing around 6:15 p.m. from her residence along Chesnut Flats Road near Belington. She was found in an area with briars around 9:55 p.m. by a Belington Volunteer Fire Department search and rescue crew.

Police and fire department officials on the scene declined to release the woman’s name. Sgt. Todd Deffett of the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office said the woman appeared to be scared and disoriented when found.

Belington Volunteer Fire Department Chief Phil Hart said the woman suffers from a medical condition that may have led to her wandering from her residence. He said she left home wearing only a white shirt and blue jean shorts, with no shoes.

Rescue teams were still attempting to remove the woman from the scene at presstime and her condition was unknown, officials said. The Sheriff’s office is investigating the incident.

Along with the sheriff’s office , Belingon and Junior Volunteer Fire Departments, the Belington Emergency Squad and two search and rescue dogs with the Barbour County Tactical Search and Rescue Team contributed to the search effort.
